Final Efforts at Hawera

The final gallops of Hawera horses to race at Marton to-morrow were done on the outside of the course proper yesterday morning, the poles being 35 feet out, and the going holding. Platinum Wings (Harris) sprinted four furlongs in 54 (is, going eveniy throughout and finishing better than usual. Gitana Lass (Holland) and Resingold (Tocker) were together over five furlongs. Resingold, showing plenty of dash, led to the straight, where Gitana Lass ranged up and had the better of the gailop at the end. The time was lm 8s. the last three furlongs taking 40s. Night Ray (Potroz) and War Effort (Holland), starting from the six furlong post and being picked up by Biack Plato (Tocker) at the half-mile post, completed the distanee in lm 221/is. The last two furlongs took 27s. Black" Plato finished in front. taking 54s to run the half-mile. Student Prince is making a good recovery from his leg. injury, and is to resume steady exercise work in a day or two. The Hawera apprentice jockey N. Holland has a full hook for the Wanganui meeting, his mounts being Statue, Gitana Lass, War Effort, Hippodrome, Plato Lad and :»Theatre. After riding at Marton to-morrow Holland will go to Ellerslie for Monday's racing, his mounts including Babrow, Verus and Rara Avis.-
