Rainfall at Hawera. Although the fine spring weather at Hawera was interspersed with bleak wintry days, the rainfall for August was less than half the amount recorded in August, 1941. Rainfall in August of this year was 3.70 inches, compared with 7.59 inches last year. , The maximum total for one day was .74 inches on August 13, according to the official recorder, Mr. L. A. Taylor. The total rainfall for the year so far is 29.03 inches. Waste Paper. More than 40 large bales of waste paper have been packed and dispatched to the mills by the Hawera Reclamation of Waste Committee, and about 30 more bales will be ready for forwarding next week. The paper has all 1 been packed and baled by members of the committee and voluntary assistance. Patea Plunket Society's Dance. The Patea Plunket Society's annual dance in the town hall on Monday was an unqualified success, a large number of adults and children attending. In addition to the dance there was a short cinema programme and items by Yvonne Emms (recitation), Myra Mackley (acrobatics), Beverley Pauling (song) and Dawn Hills (Highland fling). Messrs. C. Beauchamp and E. C. Stretton were masters of ceremonies and the music was supplied by Messrs. A. A. Carey and W. . Rogers. • |
