Canadian Government Controls All Labour

Ottawa, Aug. 31. The Minister of Labour, Mr- Mitchell, announced that the Government intends completely to mobilise manpower and has order ed the compulsory employment of all persons capable of working who are at present unemployed or not working full time. In future no employer may dismiss a worker and no worker may leave a jpb without seven days' notice in writing. All employers must report their future labour needs to employment arid selective service officers, hiring their employees only through the Government employment service.

"Similar injury to the armed forces Is done by pedestrians or workers who through thoughtlessness and carelesspess put themselves in harm's way. Not all can pafticipate -in direct action against our enemies but all can participate in saving our manpower." President Roosevelt concluded with a reference to the third anniversary of Hitler's blitzkrieg against Poland. "Men have died, riations been tortured and enSlaved to satisfy the brutal lust for power ot a few inhuman tyrants — the Germans, Italians and Japanese," ' he said. "To defeat such tyrants, to^ the removal from this earth of the injustices and inequalities which create such tyrants and breed new wars this nation is wholly dedicated."
