| A price order covering the sale and i purchase of new potatoes at present I has been issued by the. Price Tribunal. j On his recommendation and with the approval of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, according to the Minister | of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Barclay. The price for very early potatoes had undoubtedly reached an excessively high level, the Minister continued, and it was therefore decided that some action should be taken in the interests of consumers. In addition, _ the present higt prices were encouraging some growcrs to dig potatoes in an obviously lmmature condition. . The order became operative from today. Potatoes grown in the North Island or the Nelson province were fixed at a £35 a ton minimum to a £42 10s a ton maximum, and for the South Island and the remainder of the South Island a £40 minimum and a £47 10s maximum. Provision had been made for the fixation of intermediary margins with a maximum retail price of 7d a lb. in respect to potatoes grown in the North Island and Nelson, and 7id for the remainder of the South Island.
