Day of Prayer Observances At Stratford and Eltham
Observance of the day of prayer, to be held to-morrow at the request of the King, will take the form of a special service • at Stratford at 7 p.m. in Holy Ti'inity Church, led by the Rev. H. Heaslip. It is expected tliat the Home Guard will parade. The Mayor and borough councillors have accepted an invitation to attend, and members of the W.W.S.A. have been invited to be present. A special mass will be celebrated in the Catholic Church at 6.50 a.m. Arrangements have ben made at Eltham for a united citizens' intercessory service in the town hall at 11 a.m. conducted by the Eltham Ministers' Association and presided over by the Mayor, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. A special choir under Mr. S. E. Carson will lead the singing, and an address will be delivered by the Rev. E. S. Harkness. Business premises and offices have been requested to close from 11.15 a.m. to 1.15 p.m., and factory management have been asked to make suitable arrangements to enable their employees to attend. The Anglican and Catholic churches have also arranged special services.
