Death of Mrs. S. Lambie

A member of one of the oldest Mangatoki families, Mrs. Sarah Lambie, died suddenly at the home of her son, Mr. James Lambie. Born 78 years ago at Templeton, Canterbury, Mrs. Lambie, with her husband, the late Mr. William Lambie, moved to the Okato district in 1890. Ten years later. after acquiring a block of land on Hastings Road, Mangatoki, they settled in the district. This property was converted from standing bush to one of the best pasture lands in the district. Mrs. Lambie was an enthusiastic gardener, and in the last war she was an untiring worker for patriotic purposes, and also a supporter of Knox Presbyterian Church. Eltham. Since ' the death of her husband 11 years ago, Mrs. Lambie has lived with members of her family. She is survived by four sons, Messrs. Charles Lambie (North Auckland), William Lambie (Hamilton), James Lambie (Mangatoki) and Hugh Lambie (Auckland), and four daughters, Mesdames Carswell | Wellington | , Thomas (Pukepaha), R. Innes (Auckland) and Miss M. Lambie (Wellington). The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. G. D. Falconer. Pall-bearers were Messrs. William, James I and Hugh Lambie, A. Clark (brother), C. J. Astbury and W. H. Clarke. A social evening and dance was held in the Mangatoki hall in honour of Private Ernest Schicker. Music was played by Mrs. Sait's orchestra, with items by Mr. Paul Zimmerman (accordion) and Mrs. Trass (piano). Mr. A. A. Hammond, on behalf of residents, presented a wristlet watch to Private Schicker. Mr. C. A. Pease spoke on behalf of the Returned Services' Association. About 70 friends met in the home of MrB. I. Schicker at a party in honour of Private E. Schicker. Swiss cards and dancing were held. Music was played by Mrs. Sait, with extras by Miss T. Crowley (piano) and Mr. C. Rickenbach (accordion). Mr. J. O'Donoghue, Kaponga, spoke. Mrs. E. A. Marx has left to spend a holiday at Auckland. Miss R. Jones has left to take a position at New Plymouth. Mrs. J., S. Cathie, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Hunter, and her siter. Miss M. Hunter, who were her guests, have left for Marton. 1 Miss M. Pease is spending a week's holiday at New Plymouth. Mr. R. G. Hill, Auckland, is spending a 1 holiday in the district. 1
