Problem of Staffing At Sanatorium Grows Acute
Christchurch, Aug. 31. The staffing position at the Cashmere Sanatorium is so acute that imless there is an improvement the board, without opening the new building, may have to consider closing part of the present buildings, according to remarks made at a meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board by the chairman, Mr. L. B. Evans. , , ,, . "We are much under strength, both m nursing aids and in domestic staff» he said. "To bring the sanatorium to Its proper establishni6nt and to provide for Ihe new block we need 15 nursmg aids and 13 of a domestic staff. Where mey are to come from I do not know. Our recent advertisements have brought no results whatever." The medical director, Dr. I. C. Macintyre, reported that there were 200 beds at the sanatorium, and this would be_ mcreased to 232 if the upper sanatorium was opened. There was a waiting list oi 25 women and 15 men. Some of these people urgently needed treatment and there was no prospect of getting them m for some time.
