Slacks For Women Tram Conductors Not Favoured
Press Assn.
Auckland, Aug. 31.
A deeision that women tram conductors continue to wear skirts and not slacks, as suggested by a board member, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, was made by the Auckland Transport Board to-day. The secretary-manager, Mr. E. E. Ford, in a report said that it was necessary to provide a uniform which would insure. the maximum respect from all sections of the travelling public and the diversities of age, type * and figures of women conductors necessitated a dress suitable to all. Points for consideration were the additional amount of cloth needed, and the incongruous appearance of outsize women ^'earing slacks for tramways work. Most conductors were satisfied with the present uniform, and he recommended that it be adhered to. The manager's report was adopted, Mrs. Dreaver voting against it.
