Double Peter wins main Auckland trotting event.
Special. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Trotting Club's August meeting was held yesterday in Dne weather. The attendance was large and the track holding. The tolalisator handled £73,367 10s, a record for a one-day meeting at Epsom, agoinst £46,417 10s last year, an increase of £27,250. Getting a good position at the six rur" longs Home Guard. who disappointed at Ihe last two meetings, Went on to Introductory Handicap well from the littlefancied Elta Girl, who trotted a flne race. Rcd Surprise, after a had break early, was third, followed by Win Thru. Gwen Grattan led all the way to win the flrst division of the Alount Eden Handicap from Escobar, who was at a good price, and Sumnna. Carnival . Queen, alwayi handy, was next. The thrce-year-old rillda Potts revealed flne courage in fighting on 'o beal Jlastcr I^xvn in the final stage oi' thc second division. Gallant Navy was n modcrate third in front of Ringstone. There was a great finish in the Grey Lynn Handicap when Dunkirk, Certify, Charles Rex and Modcim Parrish wcnt over the line with short hcads between them. Charles Rex lost ground at the start, othcrwisc he may have won. Double Peter was responsible for a splendid performance in winning the August Handicaii from 36 yards behind. He flashed up tTiree furlongs from home and. won" well from Hillcrest. Isabella Pointer* wai third, ahead of Kete Kura, who had not got a run until the home turn. Parrish Lad, confidently drlven, scored n comfortable win in the Orakei Handicap from Belfast Jack, who showed returning form, and the consistcnt Symphony. Kitty's Choice, very slow away, was fourth. Trotting in great style Robie looked like winning ihe Royal Oak Handicap two furlongs from home, but the ex-pacer Erua Pcler, who had made two had breaks, put in a great dash, and beat him, to pay over half a centur.v. Ncison's' .Glory battled into third place ahead of Tanworlhy. Taking charge early, Shadow Son was not troubied to win the Massey Memorial Handicap from Young Parry, who ran surprisingly well, and True Guide, with Kewple's Jewei doing best of th'e others. Flnishing fast over the last two furlongs High Play won the Takanini Handicap from Exporter, with the ex-Canterbury pacer Blaek Lubel close up third. Josette, well placed -to the turn, received a check to ruin a good chance.
