Near Relative Of Maori King Dies In South Taranaki
The last chief of the Nga Titutaia, Hamua and Hapotiki tribes, Joe Hokio Ngahuinga, was buried at Taiporohenui. He was a near relative of King Kingi Kiroki, . and was well respected by Maoris and Europeans. The funeral was attended by a large number of Maoris and Europeans. The service was conducted by the Rev. M. Tauroa. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. Moller, H. Wynn, H. Freeman. J. Poihi, P. Rangi and T. Mahutu. Ngahuinga was 62 years of age at his death and he spent the greater part of his life at Fraser Road, where, he wa$ farming. About 11 years ago he lost his sight and in recent years has been in indifferent health. He is survived by his wife and three adopted children, Messrs. Poihi and T. Hikaka, and Mrs. G. Kingi.
