Confident Tone Reported On Livestock Market

Another busy week was experienced in all branches of the livestock market, says a report by the Farmers' Co-op., and a confident tone prevails throughout all sections. Dairy saies were of larger numbers, but there were buyers for all oflerings, and values in this branch show no alteration on last week's good realisations. Best dairy cows and heifers realised to £17, with numerous saies from £12 to £14 for cattle of this class. Lesser grades also enjoy a higher range of values. Store stock prices remain firm at late rates. All grazing cattle are enjoying strong inquiry. With the limited quotations, and the early spring growth of the past two weeks. inquiry has accentuated considerably. Breding ewes attract inquiry, but until lambing is completed business will be restricted. Some saies have taken place on an all counted basis, and ewes in good condition with early lambs at foot have sold' from 14s to 16s all counted. Best well grown ewe and wether hoggets command strong attention. The former sell from 30s to 33s, the Iatter to 25s. At the Ostler estate's clearing sale at Tahora a line of two. four, six amd full-mouth eyes (in lamb) realised 36s; ewe hoggets brought 27s 6d ; wether hoggets 18s , run cows (Red Poll, in calf ) £5 5s; two-year-old Red Poll heifers £4 12s; yearlings £3. In the fat stock section values are firm at last week's rates. With supplies hardly meeting the local demand, some improvement in both sections was noticable, and it would appear that the hardening in values for this section has come to stay for some period yet. Yard auctions, although comprising mainly dairy cows and heifers. are supplemented with from average to full cntries of Jersey oddments. Good quality Jersey yearling heifers sold from £6 to £6 10s, with average saies ranging from £5 los to £6. Graziers and works buyers are keen to acquire suitable cattle and exeellent clearances are eflfected at all yard centres, with values in sellers' favour. Any yardings of pigs are readily cleared under spirited competition at prices well on a par with last wesk's quotations. Large stores made from £2 12s to £2 18s, with light porkers in advance of this. Small stores £2 5s to £ 2 7s, slips SSs to £2, sows with litters from £5 10s to £9 10s, sows in farrow £5 to £7 10s.
