Good Inquiry For All Classes of Live Stock
Most business in the livestock market continues to be handled under the hammer, although there is good ipquiry for all classes but absence of quotations, restricts business by private treaty, states the weekly market report issued by Newton King Ltd. A very firm tone continues in both the beef and mutton sections, with posslbly a hnrdening tendency in both branches. Fortnightly saies held since the last report include the Hawera sale on Thursday. when a good yarding of dairy cattle was submitted, all classes meeting a very free sale. Fat young Jersey cows and heifers sold from £7 11s to £8, lighter and plainer sorts £5 12s to £6 2s, young Jersey paddock cows £3 4s to £3 8s, boners £2 10s to £2 18s, light fat ewes £1 4s, cully ewe hoggets 19s 3d, best dairy heifers well forward £ 15 10s to £16 10s, other good heifers £12 to £14, medium sorts £10 10s to £11, small and more backward sorts £8 10s to £9 10s, average-quality dairy cows £10 to £12. Pigs were yarded in average numbers at (he New Plymouth haymarket yesterday and prices were on a par with recent saies. Small weaners made £1 6s to £1 10s, others £1 11s to £1 16s, and stores £2 12s to £2 14s.
