Final Gallops Held On Hawera Course For Hunt Meeting
Final gallops for the hunt clubs' meeting to-morrow were perfornicd at Hawera vestcrday morning in wlntry conditions, u bltterly cold wind btowing strongly against horses finishing up the straight. The course proper with treslles out 33 feet was available for fast work but was very holdiug and a number of horses were galloped on the sand, which afforded taster going than outside. A number of visiting horses were out c.vercising, including Venture, Smooger, Indiun Sun, Moko Moko, Ring Scarf and (iolden Acre. Gctewayo (Potroz), going from the seven furlong post, galloped four iurlongs in 58s, tiic first three m 43s, l'roni a standing start. .... » Dvncannon (Graham) finished in front of Retort (Flowcr) at the end of three furlongs traversed in 441s. Platinum Wings (Graham) _sprinted two furlongs up the straight in 27s. _ IJrignt Geslurc (Graham) sprinted three furlongs in 41s against a heavy wind. Val JPere was given solid pace work and Gilana I.ass went a working gallop over half a inile. Corday (Potroz), after covcrlng his flrst three furlongs in 424s, completed five in lin 11 2-3s, finishing into the wind. Peter's Choice (Holland) finished strongly up the straight to registcr 57s for four furlongs, the last two taking 28s. lutdy Pippin (Potroz), after covering three furlongs' in 424s, slowed up to occupy lm 124s for iive. Gold'en Acre (Holland) went evenly over half a mile in 58s. Ring Scarf (Mllls) sprinted smartly up Ihe straight. Two visitors, Skydonna and Betterman, finished together at the cnd of five furlongs covered in lm 12s. Clarlce (Holland), accompanied by Star Qucx over a couple of furlongs, completed four in 56s. Venture (Cleaver) sprinted two furlongs up the straight in 28s. The gallops mentioned were all performed on the outside. War EfTort (Graham) covered half a mile eonifortably on the sand In 55s, the last two furlongs taking 28s. Bunsby (Holland) sprinted three furlongs in 42s. Polysotis (Holland) and Student Prince (Graham) finished the last half mile of their work together in 56s. Night Ray (Mills) went a working gallop over a round at 15s to the furlong. Gay Theio (Holland) sprinted three furlongs in 42s. Indian Sun and Smooger, both looking in good order, were given half to threequarter pare work over two rounds. Moko Moko (Cleaver) gave a good exhibition of jumping over the schooltng hurdles. The secretary for thp ineeting, Mr. C. B. Webster, has suggested that owners and trainers can help out with the big programme to-morrow by announcing jockeys* names, seratchings, wcighings-in, etc., as early in the day as possible."* Battledress, Hinkler and" Te Haka have been spratched for their engagcments tomorrow.
