Ban Upon Two Communist Publications Now Lifted
British Official Wireless.
Rugby, Aug. 20. The Home Secretary, Mr. Herbert Morrison, to-day revoked orders made by him in Jattuary, 1941, under Regulation 2D of the defence regulatdons prohibiting the publication of the Daily Worker and The Week, a privately circulated news-sheet banned at the same time as the Daily Worker. As Mr. Morrison has more than once stated in Parliament, the imposition of the ban did not imply suppression. oi these papers for the whole duration of the war. Having regard, however, to the fact that the earlier attitude of the Communist Party in opposition to the war was maintained over a long period, Mr. Morrison has taken the view that he would not be justified in lifting the ban until the anti-war and mischievous activities oi the Communist Party have been discontinued for a substantial period. He has r.ow reached the concluslon that the time has arrived when the ban can properly be lifted. In communicating this decision to those responsible for these publications Mr. Morrison makes it clear that the revocation of these orders in no way derogates from his power and duty to make orders again under the same regulation if at any future date there should be systematic publication of matter calculated to foment opposition to the succcssful prosecution of the war.
