Soldiers Honoured at Ohura
A dance, under the auspices of the Ohura patriotic society, was held in honour of two . soldiers, Trooper W. Leech and Private G Woods, in the R.S.A. memorial hail. Dance ■ music was. played ty Mrs. Cunningham {piano), Messrs. J. Cunningham (saxaphone), , E. Cunningham (clarinet) and M. Dowle (drums), with extras by Mrs. Leech (piano). Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr. K. Kerry and Mrs. W. Dowle, and Mr. J. Watts and Miss Marie Friel. A spot waltz was won by Mr. N. Wilkie and Mrs. Cunningham. , Mr. W. Doyle was master of ceremonies. Mr. Doyle, who presented the guests of honour with mouey belts, said that a belt would be presented to Private F. Dougherty at a later date, for he was unable to attsnd that night. Mr. W. Fulcher, president of the R.S.A., also spoke. A farewell afternoon was given Mrs. F. . Fulcher and Miss A. Fulcher, who are leaving the district to live at New Plymouth, by the Ohura Women's Division of the Farmers' Union. Competitions were won by Mrs. J. F. McCleneghan and Mrs. S. W. Cowdell. The president, Mrs. H. Mackay. on behalf of the division, presented Mrs. Fulcher with two c.ake plates and Miss Fulcher with a powder box and puff. Mrs. W. T. McKay presented ' Miss Fulcher with a shoulder spray and Mrs. Fulcher with a posy. About 24 friends of Miss P. Gallan met ir. the home of Miss R. Kooney! to farewell her. Community singing was held, music teing played by Mrs. J. Garvey. Competitions were won by Mrs. Stapleton and Miss J. McKenzio (equal) and Miss D. Krisweli. Miss E. Kooney presented Miss Gallan with r hanging mirror. The Rev. Father de Bree nnd Messrs. S. K. Margan and R. Cameron elso spoke. Miss Gallan, who ia a teacher at the school, received gifts and posies of flowers _ from pupils in standards II and III earlier in the day, and was also farewelled by fellow teachers at afternoon tea, where Mr. Scott, headmaster, spoke. A field hole golf competition was won by Mrs. A. Thompson. Members played for the Watts Cup at Matiere, the cup being won ■ by Matiere. Mr. and Mrs. Reg. Brett, Inglewood, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. B. Dougherty. Miss E. Shields. New Plymouth, is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Shields. Mrs. Drum, snr., and Mrs. J. Drum, Otahuhu, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Howie. Mrs. P. O'Connor is visiting Aria. Mr. C. Spokman is visiting Otorohanga. Misses D. Knowell and P. Gallan are visiting Wellington. ... , Mr. H. Lilburne is visiting Auckland. Miss E. Romayne has left for Wellington. Miwt Bacon is visiting Kohuratahi. Miss Betty Savage has returned to Hawera. Mr. and Mrs. Neilson recently visited New Plymouth. , , , . Mr. R. Dougherty has returned from Inglewood. . ,, .... Mr. W. Ricketts, Hamilton, recently visited Ohura. , Mr. Dougherty has returned from Auck'"siisse* June Savage, Eileen Ryan, Lorraine Batty and Jean Brookes, of the Auckland Training College, are visiting Ohura. Mrs. Dougherty has returned from Hamilton and Whakatane.
