Soldiers From Taranaki Leave By Train For Camp
Soldiers throughout Taranaki returned to camp by the New Plymouth-Welling-ton express yesterday morning. - At the New Plymouth station the -Mayor. Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, and Mr. ,-F. L. Frost, M.P., distributed patriotic parcels to the men, and cases of fruit were put on the train. The train was delayed several minutes at New Plymouth, when it stopped after barely passing the platform. It appears that a surge in the electnc supply operated a safety device, which caused the danger signal to be shown. Fifteen soldiers joined the train at Stratford. The Mayor, Mr. P. Thomson, officially spoke to each soldier, and Mr. W. F. Ross, secretary, and the Rev. H. Heaslip distributed cigarettes from the patriotic society. At Waitara the Mayor, Mr. J. P. Hughson, and Messrs. W. R. Johns, president of the patriotic society, I. Prichard, president of the R.S.A., and Mr. Thomson were present when. soldiers ieft from that district.
