A Quick Victory?

What must one think of these predictions that the end of the war is near? If the peoples who are battling aggressive tyranny possessed David's understanding of spiriijual power, if they were prepared to prove it as the children of Israel did at the Red Sea, then they could. confidently expect an early cessation of the conflict. But the folly of predictions based on calculations of military strength has been amply illustrated — France and Russia are two examples. And in so far as they feed complacency they are dangerous. . . . The peoples of the United Nations can be betrayed by predictions of quick victory based on military calculations. Forecasts of any early end to the war that rely on mere weight of money, machines, men or materials are as perilous as the earlier assumption that there would be no war. Our faith must be one of understanding, grounded in the justice of our cause— with works fol-
