Australia Announces Austerity War Loan
Canberra, Aug. 25. The austerity, war and conversion loan, which will be launohed by the Federal Government on September 3 for 6100,000,000 is to be raised before the end of the year. Announcing this, the Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin, said: "September 3 is the day we enter the fourth year of war, and in a special broadcast feature being arranged for that date there will be outlined further austerity in our method of living, coupled with heavy taxation already existing." This loan, he said, would represent the greatest challenge to sacrifice ever made to the Australian public. The terms and other details will be announced later.
