Change In Cheese Crate Wiring May Be Made Soon

A move to have a more satisfactory method of wiring cheese crates than at present was on foot, the chairman, Mr. F. Parsons, advised shareholders at the annual meeting of the West Coast Refrigerating Company Ltd. at Patea yesterday. He predicted that within a few weeks a change would be announced. Produce was received generally in good condition, but it was found that because of absence of the centre wire cheese crates were considerably weakened and would not stand handling as previously, reported the secretary. Mr. G. W. Corbett. Breakages of battens were heavier. and the cost of repairing for the year was increased by £46 14s lid. The Government had authorised the elimination of the centre wire on cheese crates for the duration of the war, said Mr. Parsons, but the change had not been successful. crates collapsing when handled. He had approached the department and suggested the removal of the two end wires and the retention of the centre wire. Experiments were made, and information received from London indicated that crates bound with the centre wire were in a more satisfactory condition than those wired at the ends only. Further advice was awaited, and he thought that within a few weeks a change would probably be made.
