Memorial In Honour Of Bishop Selwyn Unveiled

Nelson. Aug. 24. One hundred years after Bishop Selwyn preached his first sermon at Nelson his memory was honoured by the unveiling of a stone on the eastern side of Church Hill almost on the spot where he pitched the tent which served as a church. The ceremony was performed yesterday in the presence of a large congregation by the sixth Bishop of Nelson, the Rt. Rev. P. W. Stephenson. At a service in the Cathedral the sermon was preached by the Bishop of Aotearoa. the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett. The service was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress, city councillors and members of the committee of Early Settlers' Memorial Association.
