Central Beats South in Rugby Played in Rain
Bad conditions prevented a good display of football when the Central and South Taranaki fourth grade Rugby representatives played at Stratford on Saturday. The match was played in heavy rain, the ground being sloppy and the hall unmanageable from the outset.. Mad the day been fine, a spleodid garne 1 would have resulted. Central Taranaki won by six points to nil, Pope kicking a penalty goal and Isaacs scoringr a try from a forward rush. Central had slightly Ihe advantage of weight in the pack and exploited this several times. Both sets of forwards, however, worked hard throughout the game, which developed into a dour strugprle. The backs could not rttempt to attack because of the conditions, and loose or tight forward rushes predominatod. South Taranaki played a solid defensive r;ame and made numerous attacks, but failed to finish them off. Central had a slight territorial advantage most of the time.
