Presentations to Soldiers

Presentations to about 21 soldiers were made at a dance organised by the Hawera Returned Services' Association in aid of the patriotic parcels fund on Saturday night. A very large crowd attended. The Mayor, Mr. L. H. Clapham, welcomed all men on leave who were present. Mr. D. McCormick, president of the Hawera Returned Services' Association, spoke of the activities of the association and urged all returned men to become members. The deputy Mayoress, Mrs. R. R. Henderson, presented the men with money belts. Supper was provided by Mrs. M. E. Gray, who was assisted by members of the W.W.S.A. canteen section under Mr. J. S. Rowe.
