Three horses pay substantial totalisator prices.
• Special. Auckland, Last Nifiht. I The Pakuranga Hunt Club races were ! held at Ellerslie yesterday in flne weather. Thc attendance was large and the track was reascnably good. The totalisator handled £81,215 10s, compared with £59,007 10s last year. (iood dividends were a feature of thc races, all the favourites being defeated, I although several gaincd mlnor placings. i Lord Chancellor and Town Section both I paid in the viclnlty of a thlrd of a century, and AguilO paid double figures. Lord Chancellor was having his first start, and his performance was most promisiug. Some inferesting racing took place, and t'.omrio distinguished himself by winning | the Greenmount Hunters' Steeples and the I Pakuranga Hunt Cup. The Greenmount i Hunters' Steeplechase provcd easy tor Comrie, who outstayed the favourite, ■ Smooger, and beat him very decisively at I the end. Red Falcon was a moderate thlrd, but he mlght have done better only I tor another horse jumping on him at the j first fcnce and injuring one of his htnd legs. Peresistence, Abbey Lu and Gay ! Alma fell. i The win favourite Town Survey was I going well just behind the two leaders when he fell at the second to last fence In the Hnrrls Memorial Hurdles. Although he had earlier htt a couplc ot fences hard, it looked as if Towil Survey would have won with a stand-up. The flnish resolved itself into a stcrn tussle between Flylite and Surpccn, Flylite staying slightly the better. Venture, who shaped creditably for thlrd, is improvlng. Two Divisions. The Sylvia Park Handicap was run tn two divisions. Aguilo just defeated the place favourite Silvcr Note in the llrs* division, and Ihe topweight Foxlore came from a long wa.v back for third. Lord Defoe, after being badly ehecked at the start, did well for fourtli. The threc-vear-old Lord Chancellor, who was having iiis flrst start, scored convincingiy tn the second division from thc win favourite, Kinstcp, who was with him in front at the turn. Sir Reynard came from well back for third, and Mihinui was fourth. Lord Chancellor is a f:nc-looking haltbrother by Mr. Standfast to Mintlaw. After following thc pacemaker Radiant Vaals until teaching the straight, Cherry's Tieket assumed command in the last furlong to beat him by half a length in the [ Jeilicoe Handicap. Flying Acre ran on strongly to he a closc third, and Regal Fox, always handy, was fourth. The race should be beneflclal to Regal Fox, who may soon show a return to his best form. The well supported Proud Fox and Bonny Pay bcgan slowly and were always in the rear. Patiently ridden by O. Mclnally, Comrie flnishCtl too well for Indian Sun in- tnt Pakuranga Hunt Cup and beat him by two lcngths. The rest were well beaten, and Gay Movie was 10 lengths away third, with Henry of Huntingdon fourth. Selwyn was going very well in a handy posltion when he broke down badly and was pulled up with slightly more than a mile to go. Gay Movie might have been more troublesome if she had been kept eloser up early. She made up a lot of ground after attempting to give the leaders an impossible start over the last mile. Ecginning much better than usual, Dependable was always one of the leaders in the Auckland Handicap, and he won very decisively in the last furlong. Royal Musk and Prccisely ran good races for Ihe mlnor places, and Snake Gully was fourth. ahend of Red Warden and Hot Shot. Willie Pay and Taku Kara drew almost level with the winner at the distance, but then tircd quickly. The second fancy Evans Hcad was always riearer the rear than the leaders. Ridden by Mr. C. Buchftnan, son of the well known' trainer J. M. Buchanan, Ramillies was always in or near the front in tiie Ladics' Bracelet, and in the last furlong withstood a determined challenge from Royal Vlew.. Gold Land plodded on for third place, and Paid, who was with the winner most of the way,- was fourth. Town Section, who had not won since scorlng at Te Aroha last September, brought off a Mg surprise by winning the Admiralty Handicap. She led into Ihe straight from Aero King, Te Kawiti and Representative, and in the end won by half a length from Aero King. Transmitter flnished fast for third, and Representative was fourth, ahead of Te Kawiti and Grandorn. Representative might have been eloser only for receiving a check. Nlzam began slowly and was never promlnent. Details are: — GREENMOUNT HUNTERS' STEEPLES, Of £250. About 2lm. 4-4— Comrie, 9.0 (O. Mclnally) 1 1-1— Smooger, 9.0 (R. Hawes) 2 2-2— Red Falcon, 9.1} (R.
