Children Raise £50. When a party of children responslble for conducting a shop day at Hawera on Thursday completed their activities for the day they had raised £46 4s 5d. Of this amount £35 was raised by the shop, £10 10s was given by an anonymous donor and £1 2s 6d was collected in small sums. The children decided that they would not hand the money to the patriotic fund till they had reached £50, and this amount was exceeded by the collection of £4 2s 6d yesterday. Injury to Hip. Mrs. G. S. Burke, Eltham, was admitted to the Hawera hospital on Thursday suffering from injuries to the hip re~ ceived when she slipped and fell on the floor. Her condition was reported last night ,to be satisfactory. Patea School Service. The children of the Patea school coftcluded the term's work yesterday with a short religious service, the Revs. W. H. Walton, E. F. Farr and W. J. Henderson taking part, and Mr. Henderson delivering a brief address. A collection was taken up during the service on behalf of the crippled children fund. At the conclusion of the service a talk on the Navy League was given by Mr. E. F. Hemingway, chairman of the Wanganui Education Board.
