Strong Demand Reported For All Classes of Stock
The buoyancy of the livestock market continues undisturbed and all branches enjoy a share of inquiry. states the weekly report of Newton King Ltd. The excellent season together with a promise of an early spring has greatly assisted the buoyancy and the limited naturc of supplies of almost all classes encourages the continuation of a very firm tone, with perhaps a further hardcning in values. There is a very strong demand for dairy cattle and depleted supplies has resulted in lesser grades enjoying a higher range of values. A similar position applies regarding grazing cattle, and there, too, values are higher eompared with those for the eorresponding period last year. This was evident at the Awakino sale on Tuesday when about 550 grown station cattle were dealt with. Buyers attended from all parts of Taranaki and the Waikato and a very pleasing clearance was effected. good-conditiorted cattle, perhaps, meeting the strongest favour. Fat three-year Hereford steers made to £12 6s. forward three-year Hereford and P.A. bullocks £10 18s to £11 ls, good store P.A. bullocks £10 to £10 Ss, three-year Hereford and P.A. steers £8 5» to £9 4s according to quality and condition, yearling Hereford steers £6, two-year Hereford and P.A. cross steers £7 to £7 5s, Shorthorn cross twoyear steers £5 17s to £6 11s, forward-condi-tioned P.A. cows £7 11s, good store P.A. cows £6 10s to £6 18s, good store P.A. cows £6 4s to £6 18s, lighter-conditioned sorts £5 15s to £5 17s, crossbred store cows £4 to £4. 19s, empty 2y2-year P.A. heifers £6 10s. At the Inglewood sale on Wednesday a good yarding of dairy cattle was dealt with and all classes met with a very free sale. An average entry was dealt with in the store cattle pens, where the sale was also marked by free competition. Good dairy cows close to profit or in full milk mpde from £15 to £17, medium classes £11 10s to £13 10s, older and plainer cows £7 to £9, good-quality springing heifers £13 to £14 10s, average sorts £10 10s to £11 10s. later cattle with size and condition £9 10s to £10 10s, small £7 15s to £8 5s, weedy sorts £6 10s to £7, yearling Jersey heifers suitable for late mating £4 12s to £4 18s, lesser-quality sorts £3 to £3 19s. two-year empty Jersey heifers £4 3s to £4 7s 6d, sound empty cows £3 3s to £4 10s according to quality, frbsh-condi-tioned young Jersey cows £4 18s to £5 -s. good-framed young store Jersey cows £4 4s to £4 11s, smaller sorts £3 8s to £3 17s, cull cows £1 10s to £1 19s. A full yarding Of pigs was dealt with at the New Plymouth haymarket sale yesterday and a total clearance was effected under spirited competition at prices on a par with last week's quotations. Large stores in good condition made from £2 13s to £2 17s, smaller sorts £2 7s, slips £1 19s to £- 5s. choice weaners £1 11s 6d to £1 13s, good sorts £1 7s 6d, small £1 2s to £1 3s. sows with litters £5 5s to £7 5s, sowa in farrow £4.
