Death of Mr. R. Anderson Occurs at Stratford

The death of Mr. Robert Buchanan Anderson occurred at his home. Pembroke j Road, Stratford, on Monday. Son of a former Auckland city engineer, Mr. Anderson was born at Auckland 58 years lago, and was educated at the grammar school. He arrived at Stratford 37 years ago. where he entered an ironmongery business. Later he became managingsecretary of the A.W.R. Milking Machine Company, and 20 years ago began practice on his own as a public accountant. Before arriving in Taranaki Mr. Anderson was a keen all-round athlete. and he maintained his interest in sport. Besides hockey, he was a prominent. tenjnis player, a keen bowler, being a mem'ber of the Stratford Bowling Club, and 'a past-president of the golf club. Mr. Anderson in 1938 was appointed a member of the Stratford Hospital Board. representing the borough, and the board meeting scheduled for Tuesday was postponed because of his death. He was hospital controller under the Emergency Precautions Scheme. About 27 years ago Mr. Anderson married Miss Elsie Curtis, eldest daughter of Mrs. O. M. Curtis, and the late Mr. Curtis. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Cora, Patricia, Marion and Elsie, three brothers, Messrs, J. E. Anderson (Whangamomona), G. E. Anderson (Wharehuia) and W. G. Anderson (Auckland), and four sisters, Mrs. R. Beattie and Miss E. M. Anderson (Auckland), Mrs. E. B. Roberton (Tahora) and Miss A. C. Anderson (New Plymouth). There was a long cortege at the funeral on Wednesday, when pallbearers were Messrs. C. S. Lucas, J. J. Sullivan. T. L. Penn, A. R. Masters, L. R. Curtis and R. R. Curtis. At the Stratford Borough Council meeting on Monday night the Mayor, Mr. P. Thomson, referred to the death of Mr. Anderson and paid a tribute to his work as borough representative on the hospital board. j
