Westown : Mrs. Rollett presided at the August meeting, when Mrs. Dickson gave the thought and Mrs. Wright read the prayer. It was reported that nine knitted articles had been handed in for the mercantile marine. Mrs. Neighbours sang, and the choir gave two items. Competitions resulted : Marmalade, j'udged by Mrs. Neighbours, Mrs. Sims 1, Mrs. Andrews 2 ; bloom, Mrs. Cooper 1, Mrs. Wright 2, Mrs. Brown 3. . Sister Evelyn Marriott, principal of the Rangiatea Maori Girls* Hostel. gave a talk on her work. Birthday sprays were presented to Mesdames Wilson, Jackson. Crumpton and Dalbeth, and a shoulder spray to Mrs. Neighbours. Hostesses were Mesdames Johnson, Lobb, Guilford and Johnstone. North Taranaki Provincial Executive: At the quarterly meeting Mrs. Parker presided. Mrs. Parker was appointed delegate lo the Nationa! Council of Women. Mrs. Gable reported 20 calls for housekeepers, but she was able to place only eight. A talk 011 the land girl scheme was given by Mr. Neal. He offered to help land girls and also furmers to service milking machines and to train girls in the use of tractors for ploughing. It was agreed to send £10 to the Wairarapa Women's Division of the Farmers' Union to help those country women who have sufTered in the earthquake. The collection from "For the Boys' Tins" amounted to £4 17s 6d. Brixton: Mrs. McCauI presided. A demonstration on papier maehe work was given by Mesdames Taylor. Ferguson an.l Chapman. One new member was welcomed. Parcels were packed for soldiers ovcrseas, and several roldiers knitted articles were handed in. which would be sent to the Patea patriotic society. Mrs. Foreman 2 : apple shorteake, Mrs. Southcombe : bloom, Mrs. Richards 1, Mrs. Cornwall 2, Mrs. Southcombe 3 ; article from flour bag, Mrs. Southcombe 1. Hostesses were Mrs H. Cornwall and Miss Campbell. Cardiff: Mrs. Myers presided at the Julv meeting, when the I'ormation ot a nationnl savings group was diseussed. A wandering shilling competition was won l,v Miss E. Smitli. Hostesses were Mrs. Thoumine and Mrs. R. Richards. Lepperton: Mrs. 11. I". Kl.vdr presidril at the August meeting. when Mesdames Tnvlnr. in the charge of Mrs. R. Giddy and Miss A. Wright, the proceeds being for soldiers' parcels. Presentations were made to Mrs. E. Hellier senr. and to Miss Doris Hellier, who have left the district to live at New Plymouth. Competitions resulted: Old photographs, Mesdames Paul, Jury, Henderson and Harrison, Miss E. Hall; wandering shilling, Mrs. R. Paul. Hostesses were Mesdames J. Payne, W. Hellier and Miss Old. , , ... Huinga: Mrs. H. Cook presided at the August meeting, when balaclavas were handed in for the merchant navy. A competition for a knitted balaclava was won by Miss P. Cook, with Mrs. Binnie second. Another competition was won by Miss M. Toms. Hostesses were Mrs. Binnie and Miss J. Jamieson. Smart Road: Mrs. Chilcott presided at the Julv meeting. During the month four tins of 'biseuits were. packed and sent to men ovcrseas. Twenty-five articles were knitted for patriotic purposes. Competitions resulted: Mait biseuits, Mrs. Clough 1, Mrs Clow 2; knitting, Mrs. Leppcr 1, Miss Mason 2. Hostesses were Mesdames Parker, Priest and lluxfleld. , Otakeho: Mrs. Walker presided at the monthly meeting. Donations were made to the Makogai leper fund and to soldiers' unaddressed parceis. A wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs. F. le Fleming. Hostesses were Mesdames F. le Fleming and R. Garlick. Uruti: Mrs. Thomson, who presided, welcomed Mrs. Hunter as a new member. Competitions resulted: Names of songa, Mesdames Atkinson and Lawrence equal 1, Mrs. Radcliffe 2 ; travelling shilling. Mrs. Burr ; bloom. Mrs. Johnson 1, Mrs. Hall 2. Hostesses were Mesdames Atkinson and Hall.
