Women's Institute

Turuturu: Members entertained next-of-kin members of the institute in the Carlton tea rooms, Hawera. Solos were sung by Mrs. Snaddon, and a comedy play reading, "Cottage to Let," was given by members of the drama circle. Those taking part were Mesdames Petty, Milne, Nicholas, Calder, Sharpe and Beard. Community singing was led by Mrs. Sharpe. Norfolk: Mrs. George presided at the monthly meeting when 11 tins of biseuits were received towards Inglewood's soldiers' parcels quota. Nine parcels were sent overseas. The sum of £25 is to be sent towards the prisoners of war funds. Two duets and a short sketch were presented. Mrs. Burgess. New Plymouth, demonstrated the making of skin gloves. Competitions resulted : Seed cake, Mrs. Reardon ; sponge cake, Mrs. Adnams ; Moom, Mrs. Byrne 1, Mrs. Joe Fabish 2. Normanby: Mrs. Knuckey welconied two new members at the monthly meeting. It was decided to open the library to the township onee a fortnight, Mrs. Scott being in charge. A total of 20 soldiers* unaddressed parcels are to be packed. Kelly gave a lecture on first aid. Competitions resulted: Telegram, Mrs. McKay; sponge, Mrs. Cockerton 1, Mrs. Fowler 2, Mrs. McAsey 3 ; violets, Mrs. Cockerton 1, Mesdames Dravitzki and McKay oqual 2, Mrs. and Miss Morrison equal 3. Presentations were made to babies McKay and Bloor from the institute. Kuitted comforts were handed in. Hostesses were Mrs. Ron Sharp hnd Miss June Morrison.
