Hawera Horses Galloped
Fine weather prrvallcd at Hawera ycsterdav, though track conditions were still against fast times by the horses engagcd lo racc ncxt week at the hunt clubs' fixture. The fast work was done on Ihe course proper, trestlcs being 20ft out. The first lo gallop, Cetewayo (Polroz), ran one of the best half miles of thc niornIng ii lid reflistm'ed 51 3-5$. Occasionally a briliiant galloper, Cetewayo disappoints regularly in his races. Duncannon (Graliam) did a working gallop over a mile at 15s to the furlong. Both looking in splendid condition, War Effort (Potroz) and Peter's Choice (Holland) took 57s to cover four furlongs, Peter's Choice working the more freely at the flnish. Student Prince (Grahapi) and Polysotis (Holsand) worked a round, coming home tlie last three furlongs in 431s and flnishing strongly. Corilav (Potroz) recorded 541s for a halfmile after covering the first two l'urlongs iii 27s. Bright Gesture (Grahaiu) sprlntcd two furlongs in 261s along Ihe back. Claricc (Grahani) came home smartiy ot the end of four furlongs iii 55s. Battlcdrcss (Holland) shaded Bunsby (Graliam) throughout I'our furlongs in 54 3-3s, the last two being done in 261s. Battledrcss is likely lo make his inilial appcarnuce as a four-ycar-old at the hunt meeting. providing thc state of thc going is eonsidered satisfactory. Gaj Theio (Holland) Jutnped away more smartiy than I^idy Pippin (Potroz) aml had a slight advantage at the end of bait a mile in 56s. Manpower (Holland), looking in cxccilent order, was given a sprint over three furlongs, dlsplaying his speed of last scason. Bay Peter, Night Bay and Martene were given hulf-pace work. The two-year-olds Royal Fort and Star Quex sprinted a furlong along tlie back in 15s, afterwards sprliltlng in the straight. The Hawera apprentice N.
