Two-year-olds In Riccarton Parade Were Impressive
Several Riccarton two-year-olds figured prominently in their first public outin^ last Salurday in Ihe sprint down tlie. straight. Two to sliow up in the His>| division were geldings by Nifihtmarch, bred and owned by Mr. A. Loulsson. One « from Cheloid, dam of Pbilemup, and the other from 1'raise. ilius a brotlier to Russian Ballet and Serenata. Another to shape well was a chestnut gelding by Rroiefort from Emberalto, J).v the Carbine horse Campfire. He was purchased at Trentham by Air. R. Bryan, a newromer io tiie ranks of owncrs. lie is solidiy 'built and it is no! intended to racc him for some time yet. Another in the same division, Soncy. nlso displayed abllity. She is a grey «lly by Theio from Gay Lass hy Lord (Juex. and was purciiased at Trentham by Mrs. H. DGreenwood. In tlie second division the most pro-. mlnent was a blg gelding by Phaleron Bay from Golden Rod. n lialf-sisier to the useful Crown Area. He was foliowed by lslam, another big colt by Bulandshar from Bomun Scandal, a daughter of Pantheon and Loquaeious, who nai'rowly bcut Nightmarch in tlie A.J.C. Aletropolitan Handicap in 1929. lslam and the Phaleron Bay youngstcr are built on somewhat simiiur llnes and both appcar to be natural gailopers. Anotlier to attract notice was a gelding by Man's Pal from Wiiidsliicld, dam oi Shatter, Control, Surcoat nnd Pt'olecior. He is owned by Alrs. J. NV. Woodhouse. and will carry the colours so long associated with Ihe late Air. 11. A. Knight's activities as an owncr. N'urnic, by Theio from Saturation, by Lord Quex, owned by Air. C. P. Agar, and Good Frlend, by Alun's Pai from Knocklynn, bred and owned by Air. H. S. Williams, also gave cncouraging displays. The parade aroused much interest, and it was genernlly eonsidered that the colieclton of youngstcrs, all trained at Riccarton, was the best seen at any parade held on Ihe course.
