Higher Return To Cover Winter Milking Sought
The opinion that the dairy farmer who milked through the winter should receive over the whole season about lld a pound butterfat more than the top price paid by cheese companies was expressed by a supplier at the annual meeting of the Royal Oak Dairy Co. Ltd. ' last night. „ ^ The company, which supplies North Taranaki schools with milk and is also developing an extensive town supply, paid its suppliers an average over the season of 18.13d, less than some cheese factories paid to suppliers who milked only 10 months; The Royal Oak supplier who supplied the most winter milk received an average of about ls 7d over the season. It was considered that was not sufficient margin to repay the extra work and inconvenience of milking all the year round. . The chairman, Mr. _ F. E. Morris, said the directors recognised that suppliers must be encouraged to supply winter milk, and it was therefore proposed to pay extra for butterfat supplied during the last fortnight in May and in June.
