HAWERA

Mrs. T. Stockwell was the guest of j her sister, Mrs. Woolven, Fordell, for the week-end. Miss Joy Burke spent the week-end at New Plymouth. Miss M. Peters was a week-end visitor to Wanganui. Mrs. Grylls is a Hawera visitor to Waitara. Mrs. Neil Hawken was a visitor to Stratford during the week. Mrs. R. Berryman was a week-end visitor to Wellington. Miss M. Connor, Stratford, was a weekend visitor to Hawera. Miss M. Leevers is the guest of Mrs. R. Mortlock for a few days. Alpine Club Dance. Excellent decorative use was made of the trellised arch in the Rewa Lounge on Saturday evening, when another enjoyable dance was given by the Mt. Egmont Alpine Club. Fern fronds and streamers in the club colours, blue and gold, were entwined in the trellis, and the pillars were massed with streamers and blue hyacinths. Round the walls were skis and ski sticks, and jardinieies of hyacinths added colour to the mantel and wall brackets. Mr. W. O'Shannessy acted as master of ceremonies. A Manaia member caused amusement by singing a song of his own composition, entitled "A Fast Pair of Skis," with some topical allusions. The funds of this series of dances will provide a substantial sum to provide Christmas parcels for the forty club members now in the forces. | Farewell Dance. Bowls of choice tulips and delicate cherry blossom made a bright setting in the reception rooms at Mrs. A. K. Fyson's home on Friday evening, when Miss Audrey Williams was hostess to a party of young people, to farewell Miss Margaret Duffill, who is to leave shortly to commence dental clinic training. A frock of snowflake triple ninon was worn by the guest of honour. Mrs. Fyson's gown was fine black laee. Miss Audrey Williams chose apple green chiffon and Miss Gwen Williams wore duck egg blue I sheer. The evening was spent in danc- | ing. Those present included Misses Jean | Williams, Margaret Douglas. Lettie RobI erts, Kath Douglas, Jessie Laing, Nancy I Jennings, Alison Duffill, Miriam Fyson, Elsie Billington, Joyce Death, Joy Winks, Noeline Death, Norah Billington, Joan Thomas and Pat Bates.
