WOMEN'S DIVISION
Alton: Mrs. Williamson presided at the September meeting. Mrs. Cadigan was welcomed as a new member. It was agreed that each member give 6s towards the W.D.F.U. Spitflre fund, making a total of £12 being handed in. A parcel of knitted articles was given two men entering camp. A parcel was also sent to each man on active service from the Alton district by the W.D.F.U. Competitions resulted: Spring bulb, Mrs. Sutherland 1, Mrs. Boyce 2; tea towel, Mrs. Garlick 1, Mrs. Sutherland 2; travelling shilling, Mrs. Uling\vorth. Hostesses were Mesdames Sutherland and Garlick. Hillsborough: Mrs. Andersen presided at the September meeting and welcomed Miss Merrifield as a new member. As
a result of a euchre party donations are to be forwarded to the New Plymouth Mayor's fund to provide Christmas cheer for soldiers, and to the Makogai leper ; mission. Members expressed sympathy ( with Mrs. Proud in her illness. Thanks ( were expressed to Mrs. H. Sampson, Mrs. ( W. ' Stanley, Mrs. F. Stanley and Mrs. i Thomason, • non-mernbers. Mrs. Marsh was the winner of a competilion. A com- | petition for a tea cosy was won by Mrs. W. Maloney, New Plymouth. A parcel is being sent to a man on active service. Competitions resulted: Shortbread, Mrs. Meharry 1, Mrs. Rose 2, Miss R. Meharry 3; best bloom, Miss A. Andersen 1, Mrs. Colson 2. Mrs. Herbert 3. Hostesses were Mrs. and Miss A. Andersen. Rahotu: Mrs. W. Butler presided at the monthly meeting, at which there was a fair attendance. Arrangements wero made to send all Rahotu soldiers a Christmas parcel. A competition for pikelets was won by Mrs. W. Weaver, and the travelling prize by Mrs. W. Barr. A donation of £3 was made to the Spitfire fund and £1 ls was given to the leper fund. A letter of sympathy was sent to Mrs. Fisher in her illness.
Wharehuia: The monthly meeting, presided over by Mrs. T. L. Gibbs, was fairly well attended. Ten Christmas cakes for Wharehuia men serving overseas were packed for posting. A parcel of clothing was received for the Lady Galwav guild. A sum of £4 4s was collected for the W.D.F.U. aeroplane fund. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Trott and V. Hosking. Competitions resulted: Wandering shilling. Mrs. Capper; best bloom, Mrs. Kivell; sponge cake, Mrs. Capper 1, Mrs. Trott 2; coloured embroidery, Miss R. Capper 1. Mrs. Vivian and Mrs. Trott equal 2; bulbs. Mrs. Kivell and Mrs. Downs equal 1, Mrs. F. Newland 3, Mrs. Anderson 4. Bivd Roatl: Mrs. Hunger presided at the monthly meeting, when there was a good attendance. The president reported that a box of 158 garments had to be sent away for the Lady Galway guild. It was decided to give £5 to the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund. Arrangements were made for the annual bring and buy afternoon. A competition for the best knitted article was won by Mrs. Walsh. Mrs. Walsh also won the wandering shilling competition.. Hostesses were Mrs. G. Pattinson and Miss Hunger.
