A 20-bushel yield per acre was once considered average for wheat on Bredon Hill, Worcestershire, but 's'cientific manurrng and improved strains have increased the figure to 50, despite inferior oolitic soil at 700 feet above sea level. The crop this season is the heaviest ever grown in the district. Hay Not Ideal. Very good manure results later on when dried leaves are used instead of hay for pig bedding. As a matter of fact, hay is not as ideal for littering pigs as many believe. It tends to become dirty quickly and is frequently lousy.
