GUN DOG TRIALS
CLUBS MEET AT HAWERA LARGE NOVICE ENTRIES | Although conditions were not conducive to good finding. the second Taranaki gun dog trials held yesterday on the property of Mr. V. W. Nowell. Hawera, saw some good exhibitions, especially in the afternoon when the dogs settled j down to steady work. Members of both | the New Plymouth and Hawera Gun Clubs were present. a particularly pleas- ! ing aspect of the entries being the number in the novice class. Since its inception two years ago the gun dog club has found favour with Taranaki sportsmen. and despite the curtailing of ammunition supplies by wai' restrictions, the prospects for the future of the movement are bright. Sportsmen of Taranaki have realised the obvious advantagc of the trials, that of keeping the dogs fit and well trained to control. Results were: Novice, R. Fraser, Glen, 150 points; W. J. Butler, Rajah, 148 pts. Setter and Pointer: W. Jarvis, Home Chieftain. 92 points; W. J. Butler. Rajah. 79 points. Open: W. Jarvis. Home Chieftain. 186 points; W. J. Butler, Rajah, 159 points.
