Steele Rudds classic is I brought to the screen with all its inimitable Australian wit, and if Bert Bailey, in the title role, had never made a film in his life before he would be accepted as one of the front-rankers. Excitement in the Rudd family starts with the acquisition of a horse-drawn fire engine that Dave and the boys put through a rapid course of depreciation and finish with Dad's election to Parliament and his fighting speech to have the local dam exterided. Fred MacDonald. as Dave. is just the realisation of thousands of listeners' expectatio: : Connie Martvn. who plays the part of Mum, also fits into the wholesome jig-savv, and the rest of the players are splendidly cast. The supporting programme includes "These Children are Safe," showing the evacuation and care of London's children, Pathetone Weekly. a scenic of Lancashire. "Can You Ski?" in technicolour. "Country Fair" interest, and Cinesound News.
