BRILLIANT COMEDY AT STATE.

TFIORNE SMITH'S "TURN ABOUT." Sparkling comedy and brilliant dialogue in "Turnabout," Ihe film from Thornc Smith's hook, delightcd nudiences at thc Stalc Theatre, Ncw Plymouth. vesterday. Tlrn story tells in bubbling force of the untoward adventures of a man and his wife who exchange their bodies (but not their voices) for a day.

All their problems are solved in the finish quite satisfactorily for all involved except the husband, but there is a great deal of hilarity in the meantime. The direction is superb and a remarkable feat of synchronisation is achieved when the wife speaks with a man's voice, and vice versa. Most people will laugh all th rough, and evcn thc grimmest will find plcnty of touchcs that will make them smile. John Hubbard and Carole Landis are almost perfect as the husband and wife. despite the great difficulties of their metamorphosis. Hubbard makes a singularly fcminine woman at that stage and Miss Landis is an equaliy masculine woman. Adolphe Menjou has an important part and is as polished as usual. Some of the bcst, acting. however. comes j from thc supporting playcrs. who provide three or four gems. There is a good supporting programme, including a "March of Time," showing graphically the importance of Canada's contribution to the war effort.
