TE PUKE AWA'S DRAFT | : The thinking dairy farmer who wants strains that will give high average production season after season over a long period oi years rather than give an out- j standing performance one season and never be heard of again can tie up to any bull from Mr. C. B. Lepper's Te Puke Awa stud, for nowhere else has testing been so consistently and continuously carried out to show such re- j sults here for during the last 11 years the , herd of over 100 cows, including a num- ] ber of heifers, has averaged between 350 and 4001b. fat under ordinary herd con- j ditions. Mr. Lepper, however, only rears the bulls from his highest and most con- | sistent producers, so the Te Puke Awa ; draft affords a chance to secure sires j full of the best-imported strains for but- : terfat and type, as the stud has show : records including championships and j Oaks successes. The two-year-old and eigbt of the yearlings are by the im- | ported Brampton Wonderful Design, . whose first daughters coming into pro- I duction this year are shaping well. , The two-year-old Maori Kismets j Ensign is outstanding. being placed first and • junior reserve in a large class at ■ New Plymouth. His dam, Maori Kismet (Brampton Standard Dance, imp., now unfortunately defunct— Maori Halo. seven , records up to 4951b. fat) has a C.O.R. . of- 6401b. fat at two years and a five years' average of 4811b. fat. She was 1 co-winner of the Manawatu £a00 Oaks j and has taken several reserves. The yearlings are from dams with lengthy records averaging in the vicinity of 400 lb. fat and over for ten years. • Maori Queen Bess. the dam of Maori Defaulter, has produced 44281b. fat in ten years, averaging 442.81b. Three of the yearlings are by Maori Banker, a son of the im- j ported Brampton Standard Dance. who put up a great performance under the herd sire survey. when 24 dams averaged 4081b. fat and then 24 daughters 41olb. fat. a junior two-year-old under C.O.R. producing 6401b. fat. Maori Barber s dam. Maori Powder Puff, averaged 426 lb fat over eight consecutive lactations, which is not surprising as she traces to Vivandeere, C.O.R. 10361b. fat. B.oyal Sultan's Daisy, C.O.R. 9681b. fat, 'Elf s Beauty, C.O.R. 8001b. fat. etc. The dams of these yearlings all have records up to ten years. • The bulls are in great heart, and as they have been treated under herd conditions, will do well anywhere. ■
