Funds for Dental Clinic.
Approximately £30 has been raised for the additional school dental clinic to be erected at New Plymouth shortly as a result of the Central school operetta, "Princess of Poppyland." The public support was not as good as was expected, but ticket saies provided a fairly large sum. Auckland Short of Spirits. Though a shortage of whisky and gin has developed at Auckland the position in Taranaki has shown no* change for some months. The reason in the northem city is that shipments for that port have been lost at sea. Taranaki supplies come through Wellington and there have been no losses of imports in that case. N.C.O.'s Return. N.c.o.'s of the Taranaki Regiment who attcnded a special course at the central district school of instruction, Wellington, returned last night. They . will go into camp with the regiment at Waverley next week. Some officers and n.co.'s returned at the bcginning of September to take- the other ranks for the final month's training b-sfore the camp, but the majority after short leave went back to Wellington. Officers who took a refresher course also returned last night. Mutual Contact Wanted. When addressing members of five Taranaki Chambers of Commerce at Stratford yesterday, the General Manager of Railways, Mr. E. Casey, appealed for a greater use of mutual conference between his department and the chambers. "The first we know of many matters of dissatisfaction is a tirade in the newspapers," he said. "Let us gct to- j gelher more in mutual conferc.nce, for an outburst against the department is usuallv only one side of the story— give us a chance to tell our's."
