MacDONELL'S TITLE

miniature rifle event

The miniature rifle season at New Plymouth was concluded on Tuesday night when the indoor championship, controlled by the North Taranaki Miniature Rifle Association, was fired. There was a good attendance of competitors from the Waitara, Okato and New Plymouth Miniature Rifle Clubs. The championship was won by J. MacDonell of the New Plymouth club, who shot well to win by a point from A. Heydon, Okato. The winner holds the Murch Challenge Cup. L. Stewart won the B grade aggregate. Detailed scores were:— No. 1 Matcli. A grade: V. King. R. Benton, J. MacDonell, each 70; L. Benton, C. Humphrey, eacli 69. B. grade: L. Stewart 70, H. Hine 69, E. Rowe 66, F. Mace 66, G. White 65. No. 2 Match. A grade: A. Hedon 70. J. MacDonell 69, S. Pruden 69, D. Rumbal 68, R. Benton 67. B grade: C. Looney, R. Wright each 67, C. Dixon, G. White P. Zimmerman each 66. Aggregate. A grade: J. MacDonell 133, A. Heydon 138, R. Benton 137. B. Grade: L. Stewart 134, R. Wright 132, G- White 131. Owing to the shortage of ammunition the matchas for the Waitemata and McEwan Cups were fired in conjunction with Tuesday's events. The Okato A teum won the Waitemata Cup by seven points from New Plymouth. The McEwan Cup was won by the New Plymouth B team by 13 points from Okato and Waitara. During the evening trophies won by members of the New Plymouth Miniature Rifle Club were presented to the winners as follows:— A grade championship: S. Higgs: runner.-up, D. Rumbal. B grade championship, V. King; runner-up, J. D. Periam. C grade championship. F. R. Mclntyre. Teams" championship, MacDonell, Keen, Ogden and Periam.
