EFFORT OF GIRLS

PATRIOTIC GARDENING

Guides and Brownies at Hawera are "digging for victory" in a quiet and unassuming way. Residents of Albion Street a few weeks ago noticed a bevy of girls, young and old, being assisted by Guirle officers and friends in the planting of potaloes. The light iingers, fertiliser and enthusiasm seem to have done the trick, for in ground lent and prepared for the purpose the potatoes are thriving. Onions. too, have been planted in another quarter-acre section, with the result that 3000 plants are flourishing. all of them in due time to be sold to add to patriotic funds at Hawera. Working bees are being arranged to Ivie and weed the rows, and hnpes are that this contribution in both land and labour will bear fruits worthy of its purpose.
