STRONG FIELDS

CARNAVON GOLD CUP PROSPECTS DISCUSSED
The two principal races at the Foxton Racing Club's spring meeting to-mor-row promise to provide two splendid contests. The field for the Carnavon Gold Cup is a particularly good one while some useful sprinters figure in the Robinson Handicap. The Foxton track may not favour Siegmund who is topweight in the Carnavon Gold Cup but he is such a good horse that he must be respected. After Lady Montana's success at Awapuni early in the month she is assured of a good following. She is a useful mare when in form and there was merit in her Awapuni win. Though Winsome Lu was beaten at Marton she is in good heart and it will be in her favour that she can handle the track. She won the principal event at the winter meeting on the course. Consistent Performer. Little Robin has been one of the most consistent performers racing during the last few months. He won on the final day and ran two good races at Awapuni. If he can begin smartly enough he is likely to be prominent at the finish of this event. The win of Gaelic Song at Marton was achieved in a solid manner. She has improved considerably during the' last few months and it will be in her favour that she usually begins smartly. Aurora's Star often races well when fresh while Old Surrey though better known of late as a hurdler must be respected, especially if the going happens to be holding. Colonel Bogey and Noble Fox. After his good form at Awapuni Colonel Bogey was confidently supported at Marton but failed to fill a place. This was not his real form and he is likely to do a good deal better in this race. Noble Fox ran probably his best race to date when he was second to Gaelic Song at Marton. He has become a lot more solid and with the necessary brilliance to secure a good position early he may be in demand. Master Cyklon was expected to make a bold bid at Awapuni but his efforts were disappointing. Nevertheless he has raced prominently at Foxton in the past and has only to act up to his track work to be in the picture. Likely Lightweights. If Night Eruption can stay the distance she will possess bright prospects with 7.9, as she has proved herself a smart sprinter and raced prominently at Awapuni. Hunting Cat occasionally springs a surprise but Pearl of Asia makes more appeal. She ran a splendid race on the opening day at Awapuni and was unlucky in the running on the second. Sporting Gift is likely to be at a long price but Colossal Chief on the minimum is a distinct possibility. The issue appears open but support may come for Gaelic Song, Lady Montana, Pearl of Asia and Little Robin. The Sprint Event. Taurangi, who is one of the topweights in the open sprint, the Robinson Handicap, ran below expectations at Marton after a promising race at Awapuni. She would require to improve on her Marton form to vin. Though Footloose is likely to be improved by his race at Marton he may not be quite ready to show his best though it must be remembered that he has won on the course. Mittie will claim a good deal of attention. She came from a long way back to win going away at Awapuni and the small field will be in her favour. She appears to be at the top of her form. Prominent at Marton. The Buzzer after his fine effort at Marton may be a possibility while if Night Eruption is reserved for this race in preference to the cup she will command a big following. She was right up fourth on the first day at Awapuni. Screen Star, who won this race last year, is again likely to be in the picture this time. He beat all but Duncannon at Awapuni while his iailure at Marton can be overlooked. The distance may not be far enough for Trench Law who will be making his first appearance for the season. Nigger Boy's third at Marton will draw attention to his prospects. especially as he was not favoured by the luck of the running, in that race. White Rajah's fine showings at Trentham are not likely to be forgot.ten if he strips well while Heroic Maid ran a fine race on the course at the winter meeting. Rustem does not appeal. The main fancies may include Mittie. Sscreen Star, Nigger Boy and Footloose.
