ADVERTISING APPEAL

COMPLAINT AT HAWERA A protest against the expenditure of £497 on advertising patriotic appeals over commercial broadcasting stations is to be made to the Taranaki patriotic council by the Hawera and district ' citizens' patriotic committee, according to a decision made last night. "I think it is an outrageous thing to be imposed on us." said Mr. W. V. Patterson, who introduced the subject. The allocation of the radio advertising and the form it was to take was explained by the chairman. the Mayor of Hawera, Mr.v L. H. Clapham. who expressed disapproval of the proposal. "Everyone is doing everything they can for patriotic funds; they are giving their time and surely the commercial stations can do likewise," he said. "I feel very strongly on this point— over £25 a week is to be • given to the Government." said the secretary, Mr. J. W. J. Harding. Mr. Clapham: I think we should protest. On the motion of Mr. Patterson it was decided to make an objection to the provincial council.
