CARTMAN'S PENALTY

IMPRISONMENT FOR LIFE WAIHI MURDER CHARGE
Wellington, Sept. 25. At a meeting of the Executive Council this morning the death sentence on Douglas Herbert Cartman, who was convicted of the Waihi murder, was commuted to imprisonment for life. It is understood that reports indicate that the prisoner is of less than normal mentality, though he could not be regarded as insane.
