LONDON AGAIN TARGET MANY DISTRICTS SUFFER INDISCRIMINATE ATTACK

Rec. 12.10 a.m. London, Sept. 2a. "mhough London was again the main objective of raiders during the night bombs were also dropped in other parts of England, Scot.land and Walos," said this morning's official communique. "In many parts of the London area high explosive and. incendiary bombs were dropped at random and started fires, the majority of which are now under control. "Several hospitals were hit and fires, which have been extinguished, were started at four of them. Casualties were caused in this area, some of which were fatal, but their number is not known. "Elsewhere in the south-east of England casualties were few and material damage was not great, though in some towns bombs were dropped which started fires and caused some loss of life.

Casualties in Walcs. "In a village in north- west Wales some houses were damaged and a few persons were killed and injured. Fires were caused. Fires were also reported from other parts of Wales, but casualties were slight. "An attack was also made" on a town in the north-west of England, where fires were started, but no serious damage or casualties have yet been reported. Bombs also fell in a country district in this area but without causing casualties or serious damage. "One high explosive bomb fell on a town in the east of Scotland, but as far as is known no one was killed or injured and no material damage was done. Searchlights Ovcr London. Searchlights operated in full force during the night when raiders arrived over the central London area, and the guns fired heavily against a single raider. Another raider dropped an orange flare, after which a high explosive bomb crashed with a terrific roar in central London. Bombs fell in the north, southeast and south-west of London. BombeV concentrated on central London early to-day. A number of people were killed and injured when what is believed to have been an aerial torpedo landed outside a restaurant, demolishing a hotel opposite and shattering a number of buildings in the neighbourhood. The terrific blast was felt 400yds away. Raiders later dropped incendiary bombs on and near a famous Wren | church. Then, guided by the light, they I dropped several high explosive bombs. I Sixteen incendiary bombs fell on a hos- ' pital in the north of London without causing casualties. Several fires were quickly put out and little damage was done. Raiders bombed Welsh towns over a wide area.
