STEADY HAMMERING
GERMAN INVASION PORTS Rec. 11.3 0p.m. London, Sept. 25. The Royal Air Force again attacked French and Belgian invasion ports during the night, it was officially stated this morning. Watchers on the Kent coast later this morning heard a series of terrific explosions across the Channel, which they said were heavier than any since the war began, indicating that the Royal Air Force was making a daylight raid. The Air Ministry announced yesterday: ' "During this afternoon a formation our bombers, escorted by fighters, attacked enemy minesweepers in the English Channel. Hits were made on two vessels and another was damaged by a bomb which burst close to it. During this operation an attack was made by enemy fig'-ters, in which one of our bombers was shot down and one of the enerry was destroyed." Aircraft of the coastal command carried out operations against the Germanoccupied naval station at Brest early on Tuesday morning. Over the torpedoboat station, oil tanks and stores, a long line of bombs was dropped. Heavy explosions followed by four distinct fires and a pillar of dense black smoke were seen over the harbour and flames were visible more than 30 miles from the French coast. Other aircraft of the coastal command attacked Zeebrugge and laid sticks of bombs across the canal mouth. Unusually large flashes followed.
