Automobile Association Insurances. Mention was made by the chairman, Mr. B. L. Donne. at the annual general meeting of the N.I.M.U. Insurance Co. at Hawera on Monday of the fact that Automobile Association (South Taranaki) has a larger percentage of its members insured with the N.I.M.U. Insurance Co. than has any other automobile association in New Zealand. The Automobile Association (South Taranaki! was also thanked by Mr. Donne for its invitation to hold its meeting at Hawera. Advertising Patriotic Appeal. Indignation was expressed at a meeting of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce last night that about £500 was to be spent in one month on advertising patriotic appeals over commercial broadcasting stations, it being considered that such a service could be performed by the national stations. A motion to this efTcct is to be sent to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and the National Patriotic Council with the comment that for the sick and wounded fund appeal Hawera and district raised £3300 without expense, advertising costing £1 15s being paid for privately. Allegation of Thcft. Ricliard John Cantell. aged 31 years. a labourer, who appeared before Mr. A. Grnnt, J.P., in the Hawera Court yesterday to answer a charge that at Ohangai on September 20 he stole 10s Od in money and a handhag, of a total value of £1 14s fid. Ihe propcrty of F.dna Joan D.vsos. was remanded till October 2, when he will appear before Mr. J. H. Salraon, S.M. Schoolgirls' Bazaar. Two Kaponga schoolgirls, Marjorie Davies and Marion Tyack, organised a penny bazaar for the patriotic fund. As a result the sum of 10s Rd has been liandcd to tlie local secretary. Curlylc Caid Evening. A eard evening organised by Ihe Carhle Women's Instilute in aid of solrjiers' parcels was held al the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Peacocke. Successful card players were -Messvs. J. Bates. F. Fitzsimons, L. Paton and H. Hart. The travelling parcel was won bv Mr. Hart. Mr. F. Fitzsimons is leading with 77 points for the points prize to be pre--=entcd at the conclusion of a series of six evenings. Mr. L. Paton following closely with 70. Supper was served by Mesdames Peacocke and R. Fairweather,
