WORK AT TAUMARUNUI

Taumarunui, September 21. The annual meeting of the Taumarunui Rod and Gun Club was held in the Kaitieke Dairy Company's boardroom on Saturday evening, the president, Mr. D. H. Hall, presiding over a large attendance of members. In referring to the year's working of the club the president said that there was an average attendance of 12 members at the 11 meetings held during the year. All committee members had taken a keen interest in the liberati-'i and preservation of fish and game in the district. During the year over 100 pheasants were liberated. and sportsmen reported good sport during the shooting season. Application had been made for a supply of grey and mallard duck, but the application was sent away after the birds had been allotted to other districts. Continuing, Mr. Hall said that last j'ear 25000 fingerlings were liberated in the Wanganui River and 80,000 fry was expected in a few days. The committee anticipated releasing 30,000 fingerlings in November and to do the work the Auckland Acclimatisation Society expected the committee to provide 40 gallons of benzine. At the commencement of last fishing season a successful competition was held and some good bags were produced. The rivers in the district provided good fishing and the largest fish caught during the year weighed 71b 15oz. This was caught by Mr. R. Crane, who secured Mr. A. J. Ross' trophy for the heaviest fish taken from loc'al waters during the season. In conclusion Mr. Hall said that the season as far as fishing and shooting were concerned was successful and thanked the members of the committee for the assistance they had given him during the year. The balance sheet disclosed a credit balance of £13 10s 2d. The report and balance-sheet was adopted on the motion of Messrs. G. Hickton and D. H. Nicholson. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr. D. H. Hall; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. Hickton. A. J. Ross, F. Cox, D. H. Nicholson, F. Moresby, R. Reardon and R. Morgan; committee, Messrs. G. Fisher, W. Hayes, C. Maule, R. Crane, R. Harris. C. R. Lelland, J. Cryer and A. Stebbings; secretary and troasurer, Mr. J. Brown; auditor. Mr. F. Moresby. It was resolved that the monthly meetings be general meetings of the club and that the matter of addresses on shooting and fishing be left to the committee to arrange.
