TARANAKI CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS IN MARCH LANDING RE-ENACTED The general scheme of the celebrations for the Taranaki centenary at New Plymouth at the end of next March was approved at a meeting of the Taranaki centennial committee at New Plymouth last night. Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, Mayor of New Plymouth, presided while among those present were Messrs. L. H. Clapham and P. Thomson, Mayors of Hawera and Stratford. The celebrations will extend over three days, Sunday, March 30, Monday, March 31 ,and Tuesday, April 1. Sunday will be devoted to religious services. It is proposed to hold .a combined service at St. Mary's Church on the Sunday for the morning and a commemorative service conducted by the Methodists at Moturoa in the afternoon. Landing From William Bryan. Monday being the actual centenary day will be the day of the principal function. In the morning the actual landing from the William Bryan will be reproduced. Arrangements are to be made for a suitable sailing ship with boats for the landing as well as Maori canoes. Speeial trains will run from South, Central and East Taranaki and arrangements will be made for a picnic gala at Moturoa. In the afternoon the dedication of the Paritutu Centennial Park will take place. On the Tuesday there will be a reunion of the descendants of the first six ships held as well as a children's afternoon. Adequate Preparation. The necessity for adequate preparations for the re-enactment of the landing ceremony was stressed by Mr. Thomson, Stratford. He suggested that all those taking part should be properly coached and that due attention should be paid to costuming. He had seen the celebrations at Petone where these, details had received proper attention. His remarks were supported by the Hon. James McLeod, M.L.C., who had attended the celebrations at Akaroa. Various sub-committees were set up to make arrangements for the various functions.
