Prominent Public Man Dead. Mr. A. E. Jull, M.P. for Waipawa, died suddenly yesterday. Import Llcensing. The basis for the issue of fifth period import licenses is announced by the Hon. W. Nash. Finance Breach Case. A case in which financial transactions . involved breaches of the Finance Emergency Regulations was heard in court at Wellington. Fair, Mild Weather. Fair and milder weather, with drizzle developing later, and light, variable winds are predicted in last night's weather forecast. Reforms in Schools. An outline of big reforms for the wellbeing of school children which the Government proposes to put into effect was given at Christchurch by the Minister of Education. Elections Not Considered. "The war effort was a big enough job for everyone at present and the Government had not discussed nor even thought about the coming general elections, said the Prime Minister yesterday. Appeals by Jockeys. Of five jockeys ywho appealed against a decision of the 'executive committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference in granting them three months' conditional licenses, three were successful and two failed. Conservation of Sterling. Although considerable sterling balances are at present held by the New Zealand banks no relaxation of import restrictions can be considered, states the Minister of Finance, in view of existing conditions.
